Sunday

Posted by: starlitgrove   in Daily Grind

The most important purchase of this trip – more important than Royce’! – happened Sunday. While I was chatting with Mik on Skype, I remembered that Rick had a Singapore-based gaming group. I’ve been longing for my own copy of Princes of Florence since forever. It’s my absolute favorite board game, and it’s never available at Hobbes. So I asked Rick where he buys his board games in Singapore. He gave me the name of the store, Paradigm Infinitum. It’s located on the 3rd floor of the Midpoint Orchard mall. So I Googled the store and found their phone number. I called them and asked if they had Florence in stock. They did. My excitement reached insane levels and I decided then and there to go out and get my own copy.

I took the MRT to Somerset, crossed the road, and started looking for Midpoint Orchard. It’s right beside a much bigger mall, Orchard Emerald, which had a Starbucks in the ground floor. The place had a Neutral Grounds feel to it. There were 4 or 5 tables with players engaged in various games of Magic: The Gathering, table top Mage Knight, and even a game of Carcassonne. I wanted to join in, but I think you had to be a member in order to play. I bought my Florence for Singapore $70. Worth every cent. They had racks of board games! I saw RA, and Modern Art, among others. I thought of buying Puerto Rico as well, but they didn’t have any in stock. Rick told me I could buy his used one since everyone in the group has it anyway. I’m starting my own board game collection! I can host board game nights now, PTMers! <grin>

I also finally got my own copy of T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, the first book in the tetralogy, The Once and Future King. I haven’t had the chance to seriously read it because of Top Gun and Tech Days, but Chapter 1′s been a fun read. I love old English humour.
