Ang Pagsasambahan

I will get flogged and go to hell for this post.

I’m not a fan of churches. I subscribe to that saying, “When you’ve seen one church, you’ve seen them all.”

We initially considered Villa San Miguel, more popularly known as Archbishop’s Palace.

But we learned that they weren’t accepting bookings for 2011 until September. I didn’t want to wait that long to finalize our church because everything else will revolve around the church booking. Suppliers don’t seem to take you seriously if you haven’t booked a church yet.

So we decided to scout around for other air-conditioned churches. Because we had a venue in mind, we kept our search in the Makati area. But further complications arose from our prospective venue so we decided on something a bit more central. Unfortunately, Christ the King in Greenmeadows was already fully booked for our date. Huwaaat?! Yeah.

And so finally, we have decided to hold the rites here:

Year of the Tiger: Chinese Horoscope 2010 for Sheep

Posted by: starlitgrove   in Daily Grind

Sheep people shouldn’t have had any great fortune in 2009, year of Cow. This is because Cow and Sheep have a fighting relationship, which brings very poor luck to people. In 2010, year of Tiger, there are many Lucky Stars coming into Sheep people’s life. Those signs shows Sheep people have good career luck, people relationship, financial status and love relationship in 2010. However, when Sheep meets Tiger, sheep always have pressure. Therefore, Sheep people need to become smarter and act stronger during the Tiger year. Then 2010 will be an easy year for them.

Career: Tiger brings Sheep pressure. Therefore, career pressure will exist during the year of Tiger. The good news is you have a job. The better news is you have a two Sky Helper and Moon Helper Stars in 2010. Whenever you have difficulty or trouble in your task, you can get help from people close to you. Also, you will become smarter in the Metal Tiger. You will have more creativity or have an outstanding idea to show people. Then you will gain the reputation from your boss and coworkers. If you have any chance to sign a contract for your business or career future, then you have better advice from people. Make sure you understand the contract to avoid any entanglement in agreement later.

Money: Sheep people have both Moon Star and Happy Star appearing in the Metal Tiger year. This clearly means that your talent, performance and reputation bring good income for you in 2010. If you own a business, then you will see your business booming and your profit growing. However, you cannot gamble your money luck into a short-term risky investment. This is because that you have an Unlucky Star showing that there is a hole in your pocket. Your money is leaking while you are earning. Either you spend more time and energy to watch your financial management, or make some donations to charity to prevent from money loss from other investments.

Love: Sheep people shouldn’t have had good love relationship in 2009. There are two Lucky Stars, Sky Helper and Happy Star, showing in the Tiger year. They are the good sign for people relationship and love relationship. Therefore, Sheep people will have more social activities and have more chances to meet the opposite sex. If you are still single, people around you might introduce a match for you. If you have girl friend or boy friend, then both of you will have closer love relationship, even a marriage opportunity. If you are married, then 2010 will be one of great marriage years in your life. Young couple might have a new born child arriving. But if married people try for a new relationship, then it has a chance to cause big money loss, because Tiger is watching Sheep.

Health: Sheep people have many happy happenings in year of Tiger. The good mood will bring good health. But there is an Unlucky Star in the health area. That means you still need to pay attention the safety when driving or working. The most important area is that Sheep people must watch for the health of family members. If you have elders or sick relative at home, you should check their health condition often. Since you have a Moon Star in 2010, the health of family members shouldn’t cause a big issue. Also, if it’s possible that Sheep people don’t attend any funeral in the year of Tiger.

Fortune: There are many good signs for Sheep people in 2010. Career, reputation and wealth have good opportunities. But your intelligence and courage are required to reach your dreams. The social and love relationship will bring you a happy mood in 2010. If you are married with children, you might have trouble taking care of your career and children at the same time. If you are a married female, then you don’t have enough time for your kids, husband and your own career. Sheep people have good luck in the year of Tiger. They should spend more time taking care of their relatives or help other needy people.

So, how exactly did I fare this year?

Career and Money: I left the Big Blue and the world of IT outsourcing for the internal IT of a financial services company. Working hours are better, the pay is better. The challenge of learning all the financial terms, processes and applications is still keeping me from being bored. I spent a lot on (unnecessary) footwear. Got to curb this addiction.

Travel: I went to New Zealand for mostly work and some shopping, hahaha. No other foreign travel this year. For local travel, there was the usual Tagaytay, Batangas, and Boracay.

Health: I caught the flu a lot of times, and there was that scare with the ovaries. I didn’t go to the gym and to Bikram. I ate a lot of junk food and sweets (I’m still eating!). So now I’m a tub of lard! On one hand, I discovered a couple of great dining places. On the other, well, I gained weight.

Love: 1 year together yay! There were a couple of fights, and some episodes of boredom, but we managed to face the problems and talk about how to handle them. And we’re still together.

The rest: I missed the Eheads concert because I was in NZ. I also missed Mae’s visit because I didn’t know they’d be opening for Katy Perry. I played a lot of board games and a lot of Rock Band.

Overall, 2009 was a Blah year, with the exception of some memorable events. 2009 was such a daily grind for me. Here’s hoping I’ll be more motivated to make 2010 a better year.

Missing the Eastwood Community

Posted by: starlitgrove   in Daily Grind

missing-the-eastwood-community

I was walking home from Greenbelt last night and got approached twice in the street during the short walk from GB3 to 109 Dela Rosa.

First was a woman with what appeared to be her child, a toddler. They were asking for help in securing their fare to get home. This reminded me of the old lady who used to frequent the underground walkway in front of the Enterprise about 5 years ago. I was new in Makati and gave her money for her fare home to, hmm, I think it was Pampanga. 2 months later and she was still there, at the walkway. And I was told that it was the new scheme for begging.

The second person who approached me last night was an obvious beggar. He had no footwear and was carrying a plastic bag of leftover food. There was a security guard in front of that condo next to Prince Plaza, but the guard just ignored him.

I lived in this neighborhood back in 2003 (until mid 2006). Either it was safer then, or I just have a rose-tinted memory of those years.

I miss Eastwood. I miss its semblance to a gated, closed community. I miss the abundance of Megaworld Security around, and the QC police car that would patrol at night, ensuring almost zero occurrences of shady characters and untoward incidents.

I know I may sound cruel in calling beggars shady characters. But is it wrong to want to feel safe? Christmas is approaching, and we all know that people become desperate during the Christmas season. Crime rate rises, along with depression.

I just want to be safe. I don’t want to have to keep looking behind my back, or looking suspiciously at every person I meet along that short walk from work to home.
